Wuhan, China - Travel Guide and Travel Info

China’s Hubei province has its capital in Wuhan City and sitting on Yangtse River, it is a port city in the nation. As far as history goes, originally, Wuhan had three different cities; Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang before they later came to be united and form the new Wuhan city. Today, the city is one of the largest in China and a major commerce center in the country. Even though most travelers just regard it to be just another ordinary city, it has a lot to offer in terms of cultural arts and an exciting history. If you are not used to experiencing high humidity and heat, you should keep of Wuhan during summer as this is exactly what you will find here. 



On your visit to Wuhan, perhaps the first thing for you to see is the Yellow Crane Tower which is the largest, single attraction site in Wuhan. It features a modern built tower sitting at the top of Snake Hill and gives a clear view of Yangtze River. At the top, you can catch an impressive city view even though the smog makes it a bit hazy. Guiyan Temple is a famous attraction in the city and it is an impressive building. It has intricately designed statues and exploring the temple is always an awesome experience. The Wuchang memorial hall commemorating the 1911 revolution brings alive the history of the fall of Qing Dynasty, a major event which let to the shaping of modern day China. The main building in the hall is the Red Chamber where you will learn some exciting history. 



Other fascinating things to see are the Hubei province Museum, Wuhan zoo, Baotong Temple, Wuhan Botanical Garden, Changchum Taoist Temple, Moshan Hill and the East Lake. The Jiqing street will give you a memorable experience during night time as you eat the cheap, plenty food featuring local cuisine. The Dragon Boat Festival is famous in China but most people don’t know that it has its origins in the Hubei Province. It is an exciting event with music and dragon boats at the river and it is a great festival that you must witness and possibly participate in during your visit. Malls especially along Jianghan Road are potential areas to buy anything you like with many stalls hawking a wide variety of imaginable goods including makeup, clothing, souvenirs, music, food, movies, house wares etc. 



Xiaochi is a famous breakfast food in Wuhan comprising noodles with sesame paste, peanut sauce and several seasonings. The city is also associated with various drinks like Jingjuu, and local brews. Sleeping facilities are many and varied including the Citadines Zhuankou Wuhan with nice facilities, Holiday Inn Wuhan Riverside, Haiyi Jin Jiang Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel and other great hotels. Wuhan is also an education city and it is home to the Wuhan University, started in 1893, it is one of the best universities of higher learning in China. Another national university in Wuhan is the South Central University for Nationalities.
