Banff, Canada - Travel guide

Located in Alberta Rockies, Banff is one of the two towns that are part of Banff National Park. The town is nestled in mountains and located a few hours drive from Calgary. International travelers access the park through Calgary International Airport and there are both charter and international scheduled flights. Banff is recognized as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Generally, Banff is largely a tourism town and it is full of many seasonal workers who come from other parts in Canada and all over the world. Due to the great convenience it offers in viewing surrounding sceneries, it is also highly crowded and not a perfect destination when looking for a solitude experience.

Most travelers coming to Banff opt to spend a considerably long amount of time and there are many clubs and restaurants alongside plenty of activities and tours that can keep you extremely busy all day long. During the winter season, tourists in Banff can easily access nearby skiing areas of Sunshine, Norquay, Lake Louise and Nakiska.

Given its considerably small size, getting around Banff can easily be done by walking which is easy, quick and enables you to go for some interesting adventures such as through forests, down the rivers and up the mountains. Biking has of late become quite popular in Banff and there are several bike rental shops in the town. Canadian Rockies offer some of the most popular and fascinating sceneries in the world. In fact, you will find it impossible to see all of it within a short time period.

The good thing is that there are many tour companies in Banff that can organize for you awesome tours to enjoy and appreciate the views. Local guides are also very friendly, informative and fun to be with during the sightseeing tours. There are a large number of restaurants and bars but not as many boutiques and souvenir shops. The town is better toured on foot as parking can at times be very tricky.

The annual Banff Mountain Film Festivals has for many years been the main reason why most tourists come to this mountain town. The two weeks event is characterized by a collection of mountain culture and outdoor adventure. The event is very popular and attended by many including the backcountry enthusiasts, average Joes and weekend warriors.

There are many other incredible indoor activities to undertake in Banff besides going to the galleries and museums. This includes going to waterslides and bowling. The movie theatre in Banff shows you all the current movies and there is also a recreation center with a hot tub, a large swimming room, climbing wall, and steam room and squash courts.

There are three great ski resorts in Banff that can easily be reached. Such resorts include Lake Louise Mountain Resort, Sunshine Village and Ski Norquay. Summer also presents a great time in Banff for canoeing, hiking and wildlife viewing. There are many restaurants in Banff where you can catch some meals such as Balkan Restaurant, The Keg Setakhouse and Lounge and Wildfire Grill.
