Yosemite National Park, USA - Travel guide

Partly due to the fact that it is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site, Yosemite National Park is one of the most visited national parks in US. The park is located in Sierra Nevada Mountains. Internationally, Yosemite National Park enjoys a reputation as a place full of spectacular water falls, granite cliffs, biological diversity and clear streams. One of the most common activities at the park is hiking, majorly undertaken by the physically fit visitors. There are well marked hiking footpaths and trails in the park. However, hikers are advised to be cautious about various hazards like falling rock that mostly happens during winter.

Most of the hiking activities take place in Yosemite Valley as it offers an ease, stress free and scenic full experience. Yosemite National Park also offers spectacular but very challenging rock climbing experience. This is a highly interesting activity to engage in but observe all the park regulations and above all, keep safe. The best thing is that there are commercial guided rocks climbing trips that you can as well take advantage of. The Yosemite Mountaineering School offers backpacking trips and guided hikes and is definitely worthy consideration. Horse riding is another activity that should as well keep you busy and Yosemite Valley also offers horse back riding sessions including guided trips.

Golfing in Yosemite National Park has of late become very popular among most travelers and mostly caters for the rich tourists as usual. Skiing is mostly available at Badger Pass which California’s oldest ski area which offers both cross country and downhill trails. Yosemite National Park is also a great place to go shopping as there are many gift shops built around the area. The stores in the park are operated by park concessionaire, Ansel Adams Gallery, Yosemite Conservancy and several family stores. Educational materials are mostly sold in the Yosemite Conservancy stores. Some of the top shopping spots include Ahwahnee Gift Shop, Ansel Adams Gallery, Art Center and the Curry Village Gift Shop.

There is a heavy demand for accommodation in Yosemite National Park which is mostly offered in campgrounds and hotels. As such, if you are planning to visit the park, it is in your best interests that you make early reservations otherwise you might have to lay your hope on cancellations that might never happen. For budget travelers, the most inexpensive lodging option would be avoiding staying inside the park and opting to drive on a daily basis. Towns located near Yosemite National Park offer good lodging facilities such as El Portal, Groveland, Mariposa, Lee Vining and Fish Camp town.

Some of the common park lodging includes The Ahwahnee, Currry Village, High Sierra Camps, Housekeeping Camp and Toulumne Meadows. Park service also operates private cabins to supplement the normal lodgings such as Yosemite Vacation Homes, The Redwoods and Yosemite Sunset House. The cheapest form of accommodation at Yosemite National Park is camping and it is the most recommended accommodation for budget travelers. Reservations are easily made via the Yosemite National Park Service.
