Cairo, Egypt - The Breathtaking Historical City of Cairo

Cairo is one of the most attractive destinations in Egypt. It is an amazing city of history, also known as the administrative capital of Egypt, located near the biggest attractions of the country, the Great Pyramids of Giza. This is a place where you will be able to live the history, to experience great moments of mystery and excitement. There are also lots of ancient temples, undiscovered tombs, amazing Christian churches, beautiful Muslim monuments, and of course, the Egyptian Antiquities Museum all either within or nearby to the city.

Ever since the time of the Mamluks, 10 centuries ago, Egypt has been a very popular travel destination.

As one of the world’s largest urban areas, Cairo offers many sites that are well worth visiting and that have been luring in tourists from all over the world. Almost all the Egyptian pyramids are located near Cairo.
The Great Pyramids of Giza, perhaps the most popular travel destination in Egypt, are on the very edge of the city. If one decides to travel to Cairo, one has a vast array of tourist attractions to choose from, either in the city or the area around it: numerous ancient temples and tombs, remarkable Christian churches and magnificent Muslim monuments. The Egyptian Antiquities Museum is definitely a destination not to be missed.

It is quite impossible to appropriately describe Cairo, but one can safely say that it is truly one of a kind. It is full of life and movement, day and night. The busy traffic and honking horns, the children playing in the streets, the merchants selling their goods in the markets all add to the special feeling and the distinctive atmosphere of this exceptional city.

After all the sight-seeing, one can find many ways to relax in Cairo. Strolling along the narrow streets is very pleasant. The small cafés are very cosy and relaxing places. One can try the shisha (water-pipe), some of the cool flavours like apple or coconut, or maybe even something modern or commercial. Local meals, such as koshari, are on the menus in these cafés, often for very small prices.

A very interesting city attraction is the Cairo Tower, a modern 187 meter-high tower with views of the city from all sides, with a revolving restaurant on the top.

There are also many other activities outside the city to choose from. The well known Mena House golf course face the Pyramids, and the Gezira Club hosts horse races. The Zoo and the Botanical Gardens are also very lovely places to visit. Trips down the Nile River in feluccas are a wonderful way to view the area while enjoying the cool breeze. The Haraniyya village is very typical of the area and one can see the beautiful tapestries and weaving produced by the local people.

Among the many diverse and lively activities that Cairo offers, its culture and good-hearted people, a tourist can hardly run out of things to do.
