Comoros Islands - Travel Information

Comoros Islands is one of the beautiful islands gracing the African continental region aside from Madagascar and Zanzibar Island. Comoros Islands are at the western side of the Indian Ocean, approximately between the Madagascar Island and the Mozambique country that is within the African continent. Comoros Islands were a former colony of France. French is the official language. Comorian language is also spoken by the local residents, and is a Swahili language with much Arabic influence.



Comoros Islands is a group of four islands namely: Ngazidja, Mwali, Nzwani and Mahore Islands. These islands are a product of volcanic eruptions that occurred within a fissure in the ground underneath the Indian Ocean, hence has varieties of volcanic features and a rugged landscape. Comoros capital city is Moroni in Ngazidja Island. 



Comoros Islands was a resting place for sailors sailing in the Indian Ocean. With time it became a settlement for Arabs from Arabia, Indonesians, Africans and natives of Madagascar. Arabic culture was strongly adhered to and enforced by the Arabs in the Islands.
